On September 15 and 16, residents and staff gathered to commemorate the opening of the new location, which offers modern, accessible amenities and a focus on providing high-quality care and services for our residents and their families.
Clifton House has the capacity to be home to 175 residents with both Supportive Living (SL) and Long-Term Care (LTC) services to support residents to age-in-place as their care needs change over time. The site includes a secure neighbourhood for specialized dementia care and an Adult Day Program that provides respite and support to clients living in the community. Clifton House is also home to Clifton’s specialized KINDD (Kindness, Independence and Nurturing for Developmentally Disabled) program for adults aging with a developmental disability living in continuing care.
The site originally opened on April 4, 2022 and is located across the street from BSF’s former Clifton Manor Long Term Care site in Forest Lawn, SE Calgary. Since Clifton House opened its doors in April, residents from the former Clifton Manor site have been relocated and welcomed into their new home in addition to welcoming new residents moving in from the community.The former Clifton Manor site has now been demolished.
With the grand opening of Clifton House and the demolition of Clifton Manor, the BSF has launched a broad internal and external consultation process to help design the future of the now vacant land. Through this process, we are exploring global leading practices for age in place architectural design, with special attention to meeting the needs of the greater Forest Lawn community. Although the vision is still in the early stages, we hope to be able to offer a future design that can accommodate the latest in age-friendly and intergenerational living, as well as considering how we can support other community social needs.
Our bold vision for future growth and enhanced accessibility and inclusivity will help us support our goal to create a more “Elder Friendly Community” in the surrounding Forest Lawn, and to continue to allow us to make a positive impact for our current and future residents.
