In Jamaica's Montego Bay, BSF operates a 19-bed, small care home facility that is committed to providing holistic, patient-centered care. This involves a team-oriented approach to medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support that are tailored to the needs of each patient. Our 24/7 operations are run by a team of trained Jamaican Practical Nurses who work under the direction of a licensed Jamaican Physician.
The Care Home first opened its doors in 1997 under the management of Good Shepherd Foundation as a Hospice. A few years later a partnership agreement was signed with BSF, and since 2018 the facility has been run by BSF's registered charitable organization in Jamaica.
The hospice was initially established to support dignified end of life care for HIV, cancer, and other palliative patients but the care and services have evolved to now provide continuing care support for residents with longer term care needs.
The Community Vision Centre of Excellence is operated in a partnership by Canadian Vision Care and Lions Club of Montego Bay at BSF's facilities in Montego Bay to provide primary, medical, and surgical eye care services on a charitable basis.
The Brenda Strafford Foundation Eye Centre was established in 2022, providing ophthalmology consultation and surgical services at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital. The BSF Eye Centre is operated and managed by the Government of Dominica.
The Eye Centre was initially established at the Princess Margaret Hospital in 1986, and was relocated in 2022 to the new Dominica-China Friendship Hospital, the only large acute care hospital in Dominica, which was constructed on the site of the old Princess Margaret Hospital.
Four primary care medical clinics built by BSF enhance access to important health promotion and disease prevention services in communities across Dominica. The clinics are operated and managed by the Government of Dominica.
