Staying active is important for not only physical health, but it can also help to maintain and optimize cognitive, emotional, and social wellbeing.

At the BSF, our Therapeutic Recreation programs encourage our residents to stay active through meaningful activities that they enjoy, and are tailored to fit the strengths, abilities, and interests of each individual.

For BSF resident George Carey, who turned 95 this week, staying active includes playing pool. Pool has been a lifelong passion of George’s. He has been playing since he was 12, and even taught his children and grandchildren how to play. Each year since 2014, his friends and family host a tournament in his name, the “George Carey 9-Ball Tournament,” with all the proceeds going to local charities, like the Okotoks Food Bank.

This week, George was featured as CTV’s “Athlete of the Week." “When I get a chance to play, I play,” George told CTV News during their interview.
