September 18, 2023
September 18-22, 2023 is National Payroll Week! It’s an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the important role of payroll professionals.
At The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF), we are so grateful for our dedicated and compassionate payroll team. Their hard work behind the scenes ensures that everyone gets paid accurately and on time, so we can continue to provide high-quality, person-centred care that optimizes wellbeing and enriches lives.
To celebrate, we asked our payroll team a few questions about working as a payroll professional at BSF. Here’s what they said:
“A typical day at my job includes answering payroll questions, updating changes, processing adjustments, maintaining our payroll system, and analyzing payroll information.” - Wendy Huang, Payroll Administrator
“I am thrilled to have a role on the team that is varied and interesting. From working on a payroll issue, to supporting time entry, to setting up new payroll earnings or deductions; my day is never the same. It is challenging and never a dull moment.” - Johanne Jansons, Payroll Analyst
“As a payroll team, we make sure all employees are paid for working according to employment standards and the different union agreements. We also ensure we meet payroll deadlines and that everyone is paid on a timely basis. We remit and file payroll taxes and other related requirements to the government. And we answer employee inquiries related to pay.” - Larissa Ha, Payroll Administrator
“I enjoy the flexible working locations, great teamwork, and great management!” - Wendy Huang, Payroll Administrator
“BSF puts a lot of focus on the people side of their work, so it is not a surprise that I find the team open and welcoming. They work well supporting each other and focus on delivering solid customer service to the organization.” - Johanne Jansons, Payroll Analyst
“Something I enjoy about working at BSF is teamwork, teamwork, teamwork! The teamwork here is exceptional and it has been one great learning experience. It’s also a very friendly work environment.” - Elizabeth Olorunfemi, Time Administrator
“I like working at BSF because there is great payroll team and management is supportive.” – Cathy Lei, Payroll Administrator
“There are so many, from our Christmas party, free yummy soup, Staff Appreciation Day, and management being open for advice.” - Wendy Huang, Payroll Administrator
“I am still very new to the team and so far, my favorite part has been working with my payroll manager and team. They are very welcoming, easy to approach and open to learning about a new system. This makes for a great work environment and a fun project to be a part of.” - Johanne Jansons, Payroll Analyst
“My first week at BSF, my colleagues and manager made me feel very welcomed and offered all the assistance that I needed to get the job done. In a very quick time, I understood some of the rudiments of the processes. It felt like I belonged to a family here.” - Elizabeth Olorunfemi, Time Administrator
“I haven’t been with the organization that long, but my favourite memory is that at BSF we have different summer events for staff to participate in. Some of the events include food, music, and connection!” - Larissa Ha, Payroll Administrator
