I am a casual Health Care Aide and my program of study is the Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Mount Royal University. As for a specialty, I am already working in geriatrics and may continue to do so as a nurse. Bedside nursing is another option.
The Employee Education program has allowed me to take learned knowledge and apply it in my patient care. I am also enjoying that I can now understand most of the medical terminology used by the nurses around me.
After commencing nursing school, it became apparent that I would not be able to work full-time and attend school as I initially did in 2022. Nursing school is challengingly fast-paced and requires avid studying. Receiving the bursary has helped me cut back on my work schedule and to focus on my studies without fear of facing financial difficulties. I am inspired to achieve my goals knowing there is a system put in place for my success.
I really love the BSF culture, it's almost familial. Ever since I started nursing school, the scheduling office has been very flexible in accommodating my availability. The other staff (RNs, LPNs, HCAs) have been extremely supportive, encouraging, and excited for the journey I am on. Knowing that everyone around me sees my ability and believes in my potential to become a Registered Nurse, keeps me going. I do hope to continue getting support from the committee.
I truly am grateful to work with a company that wants better and uplifts its employees.
