June 3-9, 2024 is Seniors’ Week!
Recognized annually across Alberta, this week is an opportunity to recognize and show appreciation for older adults and the contributions they make to our communities. This year's theme in Calgary is "Aging is More... Let's enjoy the journey together,” with a focus on exciting all Calgarians about aging.
At The Brenda Strafford Foundation, we’re thrilled to celebrate the seniors in our lives, and to share the joy, love, and wisdom they bring to our community. In honour of Seniors’ Week, we asked our residents and families to share a photo of their favourite memory to bring joy to our community and highlight the unique and inspiring journeys of those who call BSF home.
Meet Wentworth Manor residents, Roger and Peggy, whose favourite memories both take us back to the Opening Ceremony of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
Roger and his wife, Doris, performed as square dancers during the ceremony. They wore yellow dance outfits, as shown in the first photo, and alongside other dancers in pink, orange, yellow, and green, they formed the Alberta Wild Rose at the end of their performance.
Peggy and her husband, Ed, also participated as square dancers in the Opening Ceremony, wearing orange outfits, as shown in the second photo. “There were over 1000 other square dancers at the Mewata Stadium, and we were all so very happy and honored to be part of this amazing day. I will never forget this wonderful event,” she said.
Thank you, Roger and Peggy, for sharing such fun and special memories! To read more stories from BSF, visit: BSF News
