Inspiring Testimonials

Our students and volunteers bring unique strengths and perspectives to CLIQ, and their reflections highlight their meaningful experiences with us:

Muhammad: “As a volunteer in the CLIQ group, I have had the opportunity to complete research projects which emphasize the importance of bringing innovation to BSF facilities with an emphasis on understanding the needs of both staff and residents.

Through data analytics, I was able to review national data around the impact of innovations in long-term care facilities, and discovered the discrepancies that existed in their opinions between staff, innovators, and managers. This allowed for the creation of a key document highlighting the considerations that innovators need to keep in mind when bringing devices into these facilities.

I am currently working on understanding and documenting information around hydration programs to start discussion around how to ensure patient dehydration does not occur. Through this experience, I have been able to explore long-term care challenges and support improvement in key impact areas.”

Lorilei: “Doing my practicum at The Brenda Strafford Foundation was the highlight of my undergrad. I spent a few hours a week hanging out with the most remarkable residents, from attending dementia-friendly art classes to sitting in drum circles to relaxing while doing a puzzle. There was never a dull moment.

When I wasn't hanging out with residents, I worked on engaging projects with the CLIQ team. Not only could I sit in on meetings, but I was also given the opportunity to help run some of the ongoing projects.

Would I recommend CLIQ as a practicum opportunity? 100% yes, because spending time with residents is incredibly rewarding. As a result of my practicum, I want to work with older adults after graduation.”

Zainab: “My experience in volunteering with CLIQ has been very insightful. It's given the opportunity to explore literature review research on elderly care, and resident well-being in senior care living.

My time here has deepened my understanding of the challenges and innovations in long term care and engaging with staff and residents provided valuable real-world context, making the research more meaningful. Overall, this experience improved my analytical skills and strengthened my appreciation for the innovation and research in developing senior care.”
