Breaking the Cycle: Harm Reduction at Heart Home Network

At BSF's Heart Home Network, we recognize that the impacts of domestic violence can be complex and long-lasting. That’s why we use a harm reduction model that meets people where they are, acknowledges the realities of trauma, and supports individuals in a non-judgmental, compassionate way.

While harm reduction is often associated with substance use, it’s also a powerful tool in breaking the cycles of domestic violence. Trauma, addiction, housing instability, and violence are deeply interconnected, and we must address them together.

Recently, this approach made a life-saving difference when our team responded to a community member in crisis outside of our building. Thanks to training and quick thinking, our team was able to help the individual. While they weren’t associated with Heart Home Network, this moment highlights why harm reduction matters across the entire community.
